That’s a wrap! June 2019
I can’t believe we’re now halfway through the year! While my June has been woefully unproductive, it also marked a key milestone in my life, so I’ve taken some time to enjoy it. Read on for all the exciting details! →
I can’t believe we’re now halfway through the year! Where on earth has all the time gone? June has been both wonderful and woefully unproductive for me…but I’m okay with that, because it has also marked a turning point in my life. My key “highlights” from the past month are:
Finishing my uni degree. This is not a drill, people! In mid June I sat my 43rd and final university exam, so my days of study are finally OVER! My official graduation isn’t until October, but the worst is now behind me.
Commencing the job search. Very slowly, I am getting around to updating my resume and searching for a Real Job. This will no doubt continue over the next few months as I try to figure out what I want to do with myself now!
Pretty much nothing else. The moment I completed my final exam, I lost the motivation to do much else! I’m not surprised, because my tertiary studies have been a long journey 6.5 years in the making, and I’m fortunate enough to be able to take some time before I launch into the next phase of my life!
This month, I only published one blog post, which you can check out below!
As you may be aware, I currently have 2 key writing projects: one a contemporary YA novel, and the other an epic fantasy series. My progress on these is revealed below…and you can click on each heading for more information!
Holding Up the Sky
“The weight of the sky—of the whole world—was pushing down, and it was crushing me.”
Status: Post-beta editing
Word count: 84,200
What’s new: This month, I started another read-through of my contemporary YA novel Holding Up the Sky, and am making some minor adjustments based on the feedback I received from my beta readers. I intend to finish this over the next few weeks, then put together the “final” draft before investigating my publishing options in more depth! I’m getting closer!!
Blood of Old (Graceborn #1)
“The Old has returned…and what once was, will be again.”
Status: Writing 2nd draft
Word count: 64,300
What’s new: In the last few weeks, I added a solid 600 words to the 2nd draft of Blood of Old, the first book in my fantasy series Graceborn! While I’d planned to write a lot this month, this WIP was unfortunately the main victim of my loss of motivation after exams, but I’m not worried. I have exciting plans for the second third of the novel, which I’ll be digging into soon!
This June, I read a total of 7 books, and I was thoroughly entertained by them all! The books I finished this month are:
We may not get to choose how we die, but we can choose how we live.
The universe may forget us, but it doesn’t matter. Because we are the ants, and we’ll keep marching on.
— from We Are the Ants by Shaun David Hutchinson
We Are the Ants is such a powerful story, with a multitude of powerful lines, but I think these were some of my favourite. Along with the preceding lines, which I didn’t include here because I don’t want to give too much away, this quote is all about living the best life you can live, and that while we may seem insignificant in the universe, our existence still has meaning. I just love messages like that!
