The time has come to announce my TOP FIVE favourite books of the year! While I’ve had another slow reading year in 2022, I’ve had fun with the books I did get through, and I’m excited to share the ones I enjoyed the most. Come check it out and tell me your favourite reads of this year!! →
My reading year
The time has once again come to compile a list of my favourite reads over the last 12 months! 2022 has unfortunately been another slow year for me on the reading front, and I didn’t quite reach my reading goal, but oh well. There’s been a lot on my plate!
As I write this post, I have read a total of 21 books, and while I haven’t rated or reviewed them all, my average rating for 2022 is 4.5 out of 5. So I think it’s safe to say I’ve been enjoying the books that I did manage to read!
Given I didn’t get through all that many books this year, I decided to share my top five rather than my top ten like I have in the past. Let’s get on with it, shall we?
The top five books
THE 716 by S.J. Pratt
Olivia is destined to be the future leader of Meliora. Andy is destined to be a waiter and househusband. But when Andy’s life becomes entangled with Olivia’s and he gets the chance to prove himself on the female stage, they both must confront their own beliefs and decide what kind of world they want to live in.
Genre: science fiction | YA
Series: The 716 #1
My thoughts: A clever sci-fi with a feminist twist.
THE CHARM OFFENSIVE by Alison Cochrun
Dev has spent his career crafting fairy tales on the reality dating show Ever After. Charlie is far from a romantic Prince Charming, but as Dev fights to get him to connect with the contestants, they begin opening up to each other, and Charlie realises he has better chemistry with Dev than any of his female co-stars.
Genre: contemporary | LGBTQ+
Series: (stand alone)
My thoughts: Heart-melting AND heart-rending.
IN HIDING WE SEEK by Keko V
After a night battling skeletons in an otherworldly graveyard, seventeen-year-old Kim leaves her village in search of employment. She inevitably finds herself entwined with a plot to save the world, involving blue swords, runaway royals, triplets, monsters, and a whole bunch of unexpected adventure.
Genre: high fantasy | YA
Series: Gemini Warriors #1
My thoughts: Never read anything quite like this book!
THE PRINCE’S POISONED VOW by Hailey Turner
Soren is a nameless, stateless man, tasked with keeping watch over the borders. Vanya was the spare heir who survived the Houses’ murderous games. Caris hears the song of clarion crystals better than anyone. Eimarille should have been a queen; instead she is a prisoner. But every country is built on revolution…
Genre: science fiction fantasy | LGBTQ+
Series: Infernal War Saga #1
My thoughts: Cracking start to a new series!!
THE DISCORD OF GODS by Jenn Lyons
Relos Var’s plans to enslave the universe are near completion. All that stands in his way is the demon Xaltorath – or so he believes. Caught between these two masterminds, Khirin plays a dangerous game as he assumes his prophesied role of the sun eater, but he’s running out of time. After all, some stars fade…and others explode.
Genre: epic fantasy | LGBTQ+
Series: A Chorus of Dragons #5

I read some interesting mysteries, some with romance and supernatural elements, and quite a few religious books that my church used in book study groups.
