Status report: January – March 2026

Hello and welcome to my first quarterly update of 2026! I’m changing these posts up a bit this year to create more succinct “status reports” and save us all some valuable time. So jump on in to hear about my recent priority list and my latest writing updates.

Life priorities this quarter

Hello and welcome to my first quarterly update post of 2026! I’m changing things up a bit with these posts this year to make them more succinct. I’ve noticed there are a few segments where I haven’t had much to report, so I’ve removed them entirely. It’ll save us all some time.

If you’re keen for more detail about what I’ve been up to and what’s going on with my writing, I highly recommend you sign up to my newsletter. Those go out every month, and my subscribers are always the first to hear any announcements or and get sneak previews of every reveal!

Time is a hot commodity for me these days, juggling authoring with my day job, my dog, and my increasingly ambitious running goals. Gone are the days where I could write for hours each night, and I’m trying to come to terms with that. Here are some of the things I’ve had on my plate so far this year:

Saying goodbye to my grandma. I mentioned late last year that I’d been working hard to publish my grandma’s memoir. I didn’t mention that she was terminally ill at the time. Fortunately, I was able to put the book in her hands a few weeks before she passed in January. It was a lovely way to honour her.

My first bushfire deployment. We had terrible bushfires in almost every corner of our state through January and February. I have an emergency role through my day job as a bushfire firefighter and was deployed to a fire in an alpine area. It was a thrilling and challenging experience!

A new structure at work. After enduring a horrific restructure process at work in the second half of 2025, the new structure officially went live at the end of January. It was chaos for a while, but I’m lucky to have landed in a team of great people with great managers and leaders. Phew!

Moving house. Last week, I had to say goodbye to the apartment that has been my home for the last five years. It was pretty sad, but the landlord is selling and I had to vacate. Violet (my dog) and I are staying with my folks for the time being while I’m house hunting. The timing has not been ideal…

Writing progress and updates

Blood of Old (Graceborn #1)

Status: Publishing late 2026 | approx 190,000 words (100%)

Updates: Everything is on track to publish Blood of Old, book 1 in the Graceborn series, later this year. I’ve now assigned ISBNs, confirmed page numbers for the paperback edition, finalised the blurb, and work is soon to commence on the book cover. Eek! You can expect to see some announcements coming over the next few months about the release date and maybe even a cover reveal. Keep your eyes on my social media, though I’ll also post any important news here on the website!

Graceborn #3

Status: Writing 1st draft | 145,959 words (66%)

Updates: I’m finally back at work on book 3 in the Graceborn series. It has been slow going so far, as it’s been a while since I put my mind to it and said mind is not exactly fresh. However, I’ve drafted two new chapters and am part of the way through a third, and once that’s done I’ll be moving on to the next POV sequence. I hope to have this draft complete sometime in the middle of the year and get it out to my alpha readers a few months after that. Let’s see how I go!
