The Hallowed Land, they called it. A bastion of light that stood throughout the Age of Discord, where none went hungry and peace was a promise to all. But when the Hallowed Land fell, that
promise was shattered. The earth itself became tainted. No one has set foot within its borders in over a thousand years. Until now.

Healer’s apprentice Asa O’Dair would follow his adopted brother Kael anywhere. Even on a reckless jaunt into the Tainted Land. There, Asa spills blood on its once-hallowed soil, unleashing
a cataclysmic force that corrupts the sun and awakens a terrifying power inside him. One others would kill to control. Or die to defend.

Whisked away from their quiet life by the Graceborn, who can wield the world’s latent energy, the brothers find themselves tangled in a plot to destabilise the Ten Dominions. Graceborn are going missing. Civil war brews in the north. And in the shadows, an enemy thought vanquished
watches, because Asa’s power—and Kael’s mysterious lineage—is the sign their time has come.

Hi there, I'm Rebecca Alasdair! I'm an Australian Hi there, I'm Rebecca Alasdair!

I'm an Australian author who has dabbled in multiple genres but whose true love remains fantasy—the more epic, the better. Born, raised, and still living in Melbourne, I have been writing from the moment I learned to hold a pencil. I completed my first novel-length piece in high school after countless failed attempts, then kept at it until I published my first book in 2022.

I am now an environmental protection worker by day, teller of stories by night, and full-time pawrent to a cheeky Miniature Schnauzer called Violet. When I'm not carving out time for my authorly pursuits, I can be found reading until the dawn light peeks through the curtains, binge-watching the latest C-drama, or training for a long-distance running event.

Asa O'Dair is not your typical fantasy MMC... He Asa O'Dair is not your typical fantasy MMC...

He can't fight. He won't kill. He is the opposite of cold and arrogant. This idealistic healer's apprentice is painfully shy and struggles to deal with strangers.

But he is not a pushover. He isn't weak. And he will have to figure out how to wield his kindness in a world threatening to ruin everything he holds dear.

Y is for YF! 👇 We're nearing the end of my A to Z Y is for YF! 👇

We're nearing the end of my A to Z of worldbuilding elements in the #GracebornSeries! I also have to skip over the letter X to land on Y, and today I'm excited to talk about chronology and timelines.

When we think about the chronology or timeline of a calendar, we generally measure it with reference to a particular point in time called an "epoch". In the Gregorian calendar of our world, this is the BCE/CE conventions you're probably familiar with.

In the modern Ten Dominions, that reference epoch is the Fall of Corraidhin, which is denoted as "Year of the Fall" or YF in calendars. Years "Before the Fall" (BF) or "After the Fall" (AF) can then be marked or measured. When book 1 starts, the year is 1123 AF.

What other reference epochs have you come across in fantasy fiction? 🤔
