P is for phoenyx! 👇 Here we are with the next P is for phoenyx! 👇 Here we are with the next edition of the A to Z of worldbuilding elements in the #GracebornSeries, and today we're going to take a look at the Ancient Races. The first is the phoenyx, giant birds with feathers of fire and masters of manipulating the Grace of the physical world. Another is the draegon, great winged serpents who were masters of manipulating the Grace of the ethereal plane. These are also known as the First Races, and they died out during the Cataclysm. Then we have the araadre, winged humanoids who are believed to be the progenitors of humans. Also there is the syren, amphibious humanoids with a natural allure and affinity for the Talent of Singing. These are also known as the High Races, and they haven't been seen since the Fall of Corraidhin. You can probably guess that all have a part to play in the series. Sometimes, writing looks like this... ⬇️ When Sometimes, writing looks like this... ⬇️ When working on my epic fantasy series, I tend to write one POV at a time (where possible) rather than in sequential order by scene. That means, when it's time to start a new POV, I go back and read their arc from the previous book. It really helps get into the character's headspace! I'm Rebecca Alasdair, and here's what you need to know about me: ✍️ I'm an indie author with one book published and more on the way (I'll introduce those in more detail this week). @southscriptpress is the publishing imprint I created. 📚 I'm a big book hoarder. Most of the books I own are paperbacks, and my multiple bookshelves are organised by spine colour because it looks so pretty. 🇦🇺 I live on Wurundjeri Country in Melbourne, Australia. By day, I work in the public sector, trying to save as much of our remnant natural environment as I can. It's tough. 🐶 I have an 8-month-old Miniature Schnauzer puppy called Violet. She's obsessed with food, chasing birds, and jumping on my face when I'm brave enough to lie on the ground. ☕ My hot drink of choice is both coffee and green tea, though not at the same time. One of each per day is what I aim for, but I am known to exceed that limit. 🏃‍♀️ Last year saw me finally establish a good exercise routine, and in 2025, I'm training for a half-marathon (21.1km). It's been 10 years since my last one, so wish me luck! 🦉 My natural state of being is a night owl, but life is forcing me to get up early most days at the moment. So am I chronically sleep-deprived? Probably.
