Whether you're a returning follower or just discovering me for the first time...hello and welcome! 😊 I'm Rebecca Alasdair, and here's what you need to know about me: ✍️ I'm an indie author with one book published and more on the way (I'll introduce those in more detail this week). @southscriptpress is the publishing imprint I created. 📚 I'm a big book hoarder. Most of the books I own are paperbacks, and my multiple bookshelves are organised by spine colour because it looks so pretty. 🇦🇺 I live on Wurundjeri Country in Melbourne, Australia. By day, I work in the public sector, trying to save as much of our remnant natural environment as I can. It's tough. 🐶 I have an 8-month-old Miniature Schnauzer puppy called Violet. She's obsessed with food, chasing birds, and jumping on my face when I'm brave enough to lie on the ground. ☕ My hot drink of choice is both coffee and green tea, though not at the same time. One of each per day is what I aim for, but I am known to exceed that limit. 🏃‍♀️ Last year saw me finally establish a good exercise routine, and in 2025, I'm training for a half-marathon (21.1km). It's been 10 years since my last one, so wish me luck! 🦉 My natural state of being is a night owl, but life is forcing me to get up early most days at the moment. So am I chronically sleep-deprived? Probably. Hello 2025! What does this year have in store for Hello 2025! What does this year have in store for you? I've been easing myself into the new year, pondering my goals for the next 12 months and trying to dredge up motivation to return to my usual routine after a few weeks off. What were your highlights of 2024? Did you achieve What were your highlights of 2024? Did you achieve what you set out to do? This has been a massive year for me, and the last few months have seen me finally settle into a good routine. Here are some of the things I've done: ⭐️ Finished the 4th (and final) draft of "Blood of Old", book 1 in my epic fantasy series ⭐️ A full read-through of "Blood of Old" to fix a few issues before I move onto editing ⭐️ Published the last post in my blog series on the indie publishing journey ⭐️ Read 1x book, which was an absolute stunner of a novel (Wind and Truth by Brandon Sanderson) ⭐️ Achieved 4/5 of my authoring goals for the year which, all things considered, is a solid effort! What does a "labour of love" look like? How about What does a "labour of love" look like? How about a book I'm still working on more than 10 years since the initial spark of the idea? The #GracebornSeries is without a doubt a passion project of mine. Book 1 has been through quite the journey, especially when you consider the timeline attached also included publishing an unrelated novel, writing two drafts for book 2 and starting on a draft for book 3. Things were super busy for me this year with a few big lifestyle changes, but I still managed to finish the 4th draft of book 1 in my epic fantasy series and made good inroads with the 1st draft of book 3. What are your favourite magical weapons from fanta What are your favourite magical weapons from fantasy fiction? I'm feeling a bit obsessed with magical weapons after finishing reading Wind and Truth (Stormlight Archive 5) on the weekend. There are a very limited number of magical weapons in the #GracebornSeries, my own fantasy series. If MC Kael could get his hands on one of them, he'd be a happy happy boy. Or would he? Having said that, the sword mentioned in this little quote is his very flawed non-magical personal sword.
