Status report: July – September 2026
I’ve had quite a bit happening in the last quarter, which you’ll get a sense of in my third “status report” of 2026. There have been some exciting developments on both the writing front and in my personal life…and some challenges too. Have a read and join the chat! →

Life priorities this quarter
Somehow it is already September, which means it’s time for my third status report of 2026. Though part of me can’t believe we’re already so far through the year, I’ve had a lot happen in the last three months so it feels like AGES since I shared my last update! 😅
There have been some exciting developments on the writing front and also in my personal life. If you want all the juicy details you should subscribe to my newsletter, which is sent out monthly, but here is a rundown of some of the things I’ve been juggling:

Moving into my new home. Settlement on my new apartment occurred in mid-July, and I had two weeks off work so I could take my time moving in. Violet and I both love the place, particularly now the weather is getting warmer and we can use our lovely balcony. It’s been lots of fun exploring our new area as well!

Completing a 30km running race. I was thrilled to achieve my main running goal of the year in August. After lots of training and preparation over the past several months, I completed my first-ever 30km race. Now it feels both exciting and scary to think about training for a full marathon in 2027…

Saying farewell to my grandpa. My grandpa passed away recently after some significant health struggles. It’s been tough for him since my grandma passed in January, so at least he’s at peace now. He had a great life, living until 92, and the whole family got to see him one last time to say goodbye. ❤️🕊️

Writing progress and updates
Blood of Old (Graceborn #1)

Status: Coming 01 December 2026
Updates: It has been full steam ahead preparing for the release of Blood of Old, the first book in the Graceborn series. I’ve had paperback proof copies printed, done another full read-through, formatted the ebook, sent out eARCs, and got the book ready for preorder! There are only two months left now until the book will be out in the world. 😱 You can now add Blood of Old to your virtual TBR on Goodreads and StoryGraph. My next steps will be preparing my launch and marketing plan for the release.
Graceborn #3

Status: Writing 1st draft | 152,735 words (69%)
Updates: Working on the first draft of book 3 in the Graceborn series has continued to be a struggle this quarter with everything I’ve had going on. I ended up setting aside the chapter I was working on, which is a tricky chapter, and moving onto a different one from another character’s POV. It seems to have helped, and I finally finished writing a chapter. My plan is to continue with this POV sequence for a few more chapters before I revisit the one that has been causing me trouble. 😁

Hey Rebeccaaaaa!
Congratulations again on the new place 🙂 I’m proud of you!
Congrats also on finishing a 30K race! GO REBECCA! Nice job, and you got this (full marathon :D)!
I’m so sorry to hear about your grandfather’s passing :(. I’m glad you and your family got to see him to say goodbye though. Much support always, friend.
Yay 🙂 I’m stoked for Blood of Old :D!! Very proud of you 🙂
I cannot imagine how tough it’s been to work on book 3 with so much happening. You did great – I’m glad that working on a different chapter from a different character’s perspective helped :). You got this :).
Good questions, my friend :). I’ve been working on editing my superhero short story. It’s been tough. I overcorrected and was beating myself up. But I think I’m back on the right track. I also went to a few comic conventions and got to meet an actress whose character inspired me so much when I was growing up (Amy Birnbaum, who played Tea Gardner in Yu-Gi-Oh and Tea inspired me to be a better friend and to not give up), a writer who wrote a comic that inspired me and helps me feel seen (Alyssa Wong who wrote Spirit World), and actors from various other shows I’ve enjoyed 🙂
Wishing you all the best. Take care, my friend :).

Thanks Alex! It’s been a bit to pack into three months! 😅
The superhero short story sounds interesting. It can be really tough finding that line between giving your work a really thorough edit and overdoing it. Don’t be too hard on yourself; we all have these moments. Trust your gut. I hope you enjoyed the comic conventions!
