Status report: April – June 2026

Another three months have flown by, and it’s time for my second “status report” of the year. I have some exciting news to share from this past quarter, both in my personal life and my authoring life. So come check out the details, and let me know what you’ve been up to!

Life priorities this quarter

Another three months have already flown by, and it’s time for my second status report of the year! 2026 is turning out to be a year of changes and surprises; it is definitely keeping life interesting, though I think I’m suffering from a bit of change fatigue. 😪

Writing has been a complete struggle over the last quarter, partly due to a lack of motivation and partly due to everything else I’ve got going on. My newsletter subscribers get the full rundown, but here’s an overview of what’s been on my priority list:

Buying my first home. Yes, you read that right! I’m incredibly lucky and incredibly to excited to have just bought my first phone. It’s a cute little apartment in a great location with a bedroom, study, separate laundry, open plan kitchen / living area and a nice big balcony. I’ll be moving there in mid-July.

Competing in a 22km trail run. If you’ve been following my running journey, you’d know I’m stepping things up in 2026. I completed my first race at the end of May, which was a stunning yet challenging trail run just a bit further than a half-marathon in distance. I had a blast!

Recruiting at my day job. Work has been keeping me busy. There is a lot of staff movement at the moment; musical chairs always happens after a restructure. Recently, I’ve been recruiting to a position that reports to me. I’ve been involved in recruitment before, but never in charge like I am now…

Writing progress and updates

Blood of Old (Graceborn #1)

Status: Coming 01 December 2026 | approx 190,000 words

Updates: Does something look different here? 😀 This quarter has been full of announcements about Blood of Old, the first book in the Graceborn series. It will be coming to a shelf near you on 01 December 2026, and earlier today I had the pleasure of revealing the cover. I’m very close now to getting some test copies printed, and then I need to get to work designing the ebook. I’m hoping to have preorders ready during this next quarter, but in the meantime you can add the book to your TBR on Goodreads!

Graceborn #3

Status: Writing 1st draft | 149,019 words (68%)

Updates: Unfortunately, I think I’ve only written one chapter of book 3 in the Graceborn series since my last update. Like I said: the writing has not been going well. Part of that has been the struggle to find the time. The other part is that when I do have the time, I don’t seem to have the energy or motivation. A focus for me in the coming weeks will be to chain myself to my desk for a day and just get the drought broken. I’m hopeful that will help get the words flowing again!

Share your status report from the last three months! What have your life priorities been? Do you have any updates on your writing or reading or other pursuits?

    Hey, my friend!!
Change fatigue is totally valid. I hope things slow down soon.
Understandable to be struggling…You have a lot to do. I have been struggling to write too due to busyness. So, I get it. And by the end of the day, the energy and motivation to write just goes away.
I support you. And I’m here for you. I’m cheering you on :).

Congrats on your first house purchase 🙂 Proud of you 😀
Congrats on completing a 22km run -that’s super impressive!! YOU ROCK 🙂
Oh wow, recruiting as well? You got this. It’s a challenge. I hope it hasn’t been overwhelming. I support you.

YAY!!! The cover is awesome! GO REBECCA!
🙂 All progress counts. And it’s understandable to not write as much as you hoped. You got this 🙂 GO REBECCA 🙂

Hmm… my mental health has been a struggle during the last three months. I’ve had some personal struggles that I might email you about. But, I had two stories published (in March and April) :). I’ve been drawing almost every day. I might need to slow down on that though because it’s contributing to me sleeping less (or just go for less time consuming drawings). I finished a comedic superhero short story (1st draft and it is not good lol). And, I started on another one. I also joined 3 summer reading programs and that’s been encouraging me to push myself on reading more (though I may be over doing that lol).

Sending you my best wishes. Much support always, my friend. And, as always GO REBECCA! :D. Take care :).
